Police detained three Irish nationals

Polish police say 14 people, reported to be football fans, have been arrested after a brawl in Poznan early on Sunday morning.

The trouble broke out less than 24 hours before Croatia and Republic of Ireland play in the city. Officers said bottles and chairs were thrown during disturbances in the main square at around 1am.

Images taken from video footage showed chairs strewn around the square and police officers arriving in numbers.

Police official Andrzej Borowiak said officers had detained ten Poles, three Irish nationals and one Croat, and were still trying to determine what role they had in the fight.

The violence comes after Russian fans attacked stewards in a stadium walkway during the match against Czech Republic in Wroclaw on Friday.
