David Beckham is set to be the most notable inclusion with Stuart Pearce poised to name his 35-man provisional Great Britain Olympic squad.

Beckham, 37, looks set to be named alongside Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy in the list, whilst Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard remain candidates for selection.

There has been great debate as to which three overage players would make the squad, but Beckham has been a consistent presence in discussions, following his role in bringing the Games to London in the first place.

Beckham was given a great reception at Wembley when given a special award by UEFA at Wembley last week and his presence in the Olympic squad would be a great boost for the football tournament's marketing and ticketing.

Although it has been announced that none of England's 23-man Euro 2012 squad will be included in the Olympic selection, it is believed that third choice goalkeeper Jack Butland could be included.

Although Butland himself has declared his intention to play at the Olympics, the decision will rest with club side Birmingham, who can prevent his inclusion should they wish.
