Fiorentina have announced their current team manager Vincenzo Guerini will replace sacked coach Delio Rossi at the helm until the end of the season.
Delio Rossi sacked after attacking player
Rossi was dismissed on Wednesday night after he physically attacked his player Adem Ljajic during the 2-2 Serie A draw with Novara.
A statement from Fiorentina read: "Fiorentina announces that Vincenzo Guerini will guide the team in the final two games of the campaign. The club wishes to thank coach Delio Rossi and his staff for the work done in these months.
"Fiorentina also announces that it has opened a disciplinary case against the player, Adem Ljajic."
The attack came after Ljajic's apparent dissent at being substituted just 32 minutes into Wednesday's match. Rossi, who replaced sacked Sinisa Mihajlovic in November, has endured a difficult spell with the Viola.
Fiorentina have won just three of their last 11 games and the point against Novara left the Tuscan side six points clear of the relegation zone with two games left to play.
Guerini has not coached since guiding Catanzaro in the 2005-06 campaign but has plenty of experience. The 58-year-old has led Bologna, Brescia, Ancona, Pisa and Napoli in the past.
Guerini's first game in charge will be on Saturday when the Viola take on 18th-place Lecce at the Via del Mare stadium needing a point to confirm their Serie A status.
