Marseille forward Andre Ayew has undergone successful shoulder surgery but will be out of action for the next three months.

Ayew, 22, went under the knife on Tuesday with a view to being fit for the start of the new season.

A club statement read: "The operation on the left shoulder of Andre Ayew, conducted on Tuesday in Lyon by Dr Walsch, went smoothly. The Ghanaian's comeback is expected in about three months.''

The Ghana international has been playing through the pain since picking up the problem at the African Nations Cup in January, but it was decided the operation must go ahead now after he dislocated his shoulder during Saturday's 2-1 Ligue 1 defeat at Bordeaux.
