Silva, 27, picked up a thigh injury during Saturday's 2-1 win over Roma, and news of his absence will disappoint head coach Massimiliano Allegri ahead of next week's meeting with Barcelona.

A club statement read: "AC Milan announces Thiago Silva has undergone an MRI today which has revealed a muscular lesion in his right thigh.

"The recovery period is set for three to four weeks, unless [there are] complications.''

The Brazil international will miss five Serie A games as well as the Champions League quarter-final ties with Barcelona.

Milan host Barca on Wednesday before travelling to the Camp Nou on April 3 for the return leg.
