Kurz clings onto job

March 10, 2012

Kaiserslautern coach Marco Kurz will live to fight another week in charge of the club after Friday night's 0-0 draw with Stuttgart gave him a stay of execution.

The result extended the club's run of games without a win to 15, but their second successive goalless draw has at least bought Kurz some more time to try to lead the club away from danger.

"Marco Kurz is our coach and if anything were to change regarding that then we would say so, but I would not be expecting anything,'' chairman Stefan Kuntz told reporters at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Kurz himself was happy with his team's performance and is confident that they will finally get back to winning ways against Schalke next weekend.

"My team did a lot of things right today and now we have another week in which we want to work on a lot in training to be able to win finally in front of our fantastic fans at home," he said.

It was a more frustrating evening for Stuttgart coach Bruno Labbadia, whose side missed the opportunity to move into seventh place in the table with a win.

"We were able to build up some pressure in the first half, but we just lacked a bit of luck," he said. "It was not easy to play against a defensively strong Kaiserslautern team. They were solid in defence and we lacked incision with our shooting."
