Wigan Athletic have been granted permission to speak with Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard.
It is reported that a fee in the region of £2 million has been agreed between the two sides as Wigan aim to bolster their attacking options before the close of the transfer window.
Maynard, 25, has scored eight goals in 26 Championship appearances this season, having joined the Robins from Crewe for £2.25 million in 2008.
A statement from Bristol City read: "City have given Wigan Athletic permission to speak to Nicky Maynard. Discussions to finalise a transfer fee with the Premier League club are at an advanced stage.
"The club now awaits news of talks between Wigan and the 25-year-old former Crewe Alexandra forward."
Roberto Martinez's Wigan are currently bottom of the Premier League table, four points adrift of safety.
