Ferrara: Serie A clubs lack faith in youth
Italy Under-21 coach Ciro Ferrara believes Serie A clubs are overly-reliant on foreign imports and that the development of young Italian players has been hampered as a result.
Ferrara has been in charge of the Azzurini since 2010 and has previously lamented what he perceives to be a lack of faith in young Italians among top-flight sides.
And after convening with his players for a mid-season training camp and friendly this week, the former Juventus boss has reiterated his calls for a greater focus on emerging talent.
"Often in Italy, clubs have favoured foreigners over Italian players, even if there have been players that we could have done without," he said.
"Unfortunately our country's clubs lacks the courage to play youngsters in the first team. However, I must admit to being reasonably happy because many of these guys are still finding space, if not in Serie A."
