Blackburn Rovers have insisted they have no intention of selling captain Chris Samba despite the player handing in an official transfer request.

Samba, 27, confirmed on Monday that he was looking for a move away from Ewood Park, with QPR, Tottenham and PSG all rumoured to be interested in the centre-back.

"I have today [Monday] officially requested a transfer from Blackburn Rovers Football Club," Samba said in a statement. "I have personally informed the owners, manager and executives at the club that I want to leave in this transfer window.

"I have decided now is the right time for me to pursue a new challenge and I have asked the club to respect my decision and allow me to leave. I thank the fans for their support and I hope they feel I have served them and their club well."

However, Blackburn are standing firm on their skipper's future, having maintained for months that he would not be allowed to leave.

Rovers' statement said: "Blackburn Rovers reiterate that team captain Christopher Samba is not for sale. The player signed a new contract with the club less than a year ago which runs to June 2015."
