Hannover president Martin Kind has criticised his club's striker Didier Ya Konan, claiming the money on a new contract has gone to his head - and his stomach.
Speaking at an event organised by the Lower Saxony Football Association, Kind is quoted by the German dpa agency as saying Ya Konan is now living a life of luxury after being given a lucrative new three-year contract a year ago.
"After his contract extension, he has started to take things easy,'' said Kind. "Now he is overweight and has pretty cars.''
Ya Konan scored 14 goals to help Hannover finish fourth in the Bundesliga last season, yet he has found the back of the net only once this season.
He will miss the first few weeks of the second half of the table since he will be on international duty for the Ivory Coast at the African Nations Cup and Kind hopes he returns in better shape and more focused.
"It all started when he signed a new contract,'' added the Reds president.
