Montreal Impact star Ignacio Piatti suspended after bad foul

MLS has suspended Montreal Impact star midfielder Ignacio Piatti one match for a foul against the Portland Timbers on Wednesday.

Piatti brought down Alvas Powell from behind with a two-footed challenge in the 18th minute.

He received a yellow card on the play, but referee Allen Champan later said after reviewing replays that a red card "was warranted."

But Piatti stayed on the pitch and equalized for Montreal and the game finished in a 1-1 draw.

He will now miss Montreal's match against NYCFC on Sunday (5 p.m., ESPN).

Piatti was named the Impact's player of the season in 2015 and has drawn rave reviews in filling in for the often-absent Didier Drogba this year, scoring 11 goals in 17 games.
