Middlesbrough appoint Garry Monk as manager on three-year contract

Middlesbrough have appointed Garry Monk as their new manager on a three-year contract.

Monk, who recently left Leeds after one season in charge in which he guided them to a seventh-place finish in the Championship, will be unveiled at a news conference on Monday.

He replaces interim manager Steve Agnew, who oversaw the club's relegation from the Premier League after Aitor Karanka was dismissed in March.

Boro finished 19th in the Premier League and went down having won only five of their 38 games.

It is reported that former England, Everton and Southampton striker James Beattie will work alongside Monk as a coach.
