Javier Hernandez ties Jared Borgetti's all-time Mexico scoring record at 46

Javier Hernandez has drawn level with Jared Borgetti as Mexico's all-time leading scorer at 46 goals after firing Mexico in front of Costa Rica in the seventh minute of the teams' World Cup qualifying match in Mexico City.

Mexico would go on to win the match 2-0 to move into first in CONCACAF's Hexagonal qualification standings.

"Chicharito" was the fastest Mexico player to hit the 20, 30 and 40-goal mark for his team, and equalled Borgetti's record in the exact same number of games at 89.

The former Chivas, Manchester United and Real Madrid player has enjoyed a resurgence at club level since joining Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga in 2015 and that form has carried back over to the national team.

"Chicharito" has made his presence felt against 29 different countries, scoring with the greatest frequency against El Salvador and Honduras at four apiece. He's scored two or more goals against 12 different countries, including CONCACAF rival Costa Rica.
