SAN DIEGO -- Mexico and PSV Eindhoven midfielder Andres Guardado can see himself playing in MLS one day, even if he wasn't committal on when that might be. "Why not [play in MLS]?" stated Guardado in an interview with ESPN after Mexico's victory over Paraguay on Saturday. "It is a league that is growing a lot, every day they are signing younger, quality players and that will help the league grow." ESPN's John Sutcliffe reported that new MLS franchise Atlanta United is interested in Guardado and Real Sociedad's Carlos Vela as the North American league looks to add more Mexican talent to supplement LA Galaxy's Giovani Dos Santos and Houston Dynamo's Erick "Cubo" Torres. "I can tell you that 30 to 35 percent of MLS' fanbase is Hispanic," MLS commissioner Don Garber said at an event in Mexico City earlier this month. "That is bigger than any other pro league in America." "We would love to have the best possible Mexican players that we could convince to come to MLS, but it's up to the player," he added. Guardado's PSV side qualified directly for the Champions League next season after winning the Eredivisie title, making a move this summer unlikely. Vela, however, is coming off a poor season with Real Sociedad and has been consistently linked with a move Stateside. Guardado is set for a key role for Mexico in the Copa America Centenario and is at the peak of his career, while Vela -- like Dos Santos -- was not included in Juan Carlos Osorio's squad.
