Jose Mourinho 'not interested' in Alvaro Morata's move to Chelsea

HOUSTON -- Jose Mourinho has insisted he is "not interested" that Alvaro Morata is set to sign for Chelsea, but hinted he needs another striker this summer.

Morata is set to move to Chelsea in a £60 million deal after their top target, Romelu Lukaku, signed for United.

Mourinho has admitted his admiration for Morata already during the tour of the United States and said it was "a shame" his club could not agree a deal with Real Madrid for the Spaniard.

After Chelsea missed out on Lukaku they turned their attention to Morata and Mourinho, whose team plays Manchester City here on Thursday, insists he has got the better end of the two deals.

However, despite signing Lukaku, the United manager also hinted he wants another striker after losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while saying he isn't happy overall with the summer's activity.

He told a news conference on Wednesday: "I'm not interested in what Chelsea FC does, really.

"We needed a striker, so yes, we needed with Zlatan in his best conditions, we needed one to give cover, give options, him and Marcus [Rashford] was not enough, especially after the injury.

"We got a big player, a player that I can not compare with what he was a few years ago, because he worked with me for a few months and his development was very good.

"We have a player [Lukaku] who is now a top player. You have to prove it at the highest level, he has to do it for United, in Champions League matches but he has amazing qualities.

"Chelsea, it was obvious they were going to sign a striker after the situation with the manager and Diego [Costa]."

Mourinho, meanwhile, insists his summer spending is not over. United have brought in Lukaku and defender Victor Lindelof for a combined fee of more than £100 million.

They have also been linked with moves for Tottenham's Eric Dier, Chelsea's Nemanja Matic and Inter's Ivan Perisic.

Mourinho wants at least one more new arrival but says he is not willing to pay astronomical prices being quoted in a window that has seen Manchester City sign right-back Kyle Walker for £50m.

Inter want £48.5m for Perisic while Tottenham are demanding upwards of £60m for Dier.

Mourinho added: "The problem is we have four players that cannot play football now, not even training, so it looks like our group is big but it is not and the time for their recovery is really long.

"Marcos [Rojo] has no chance before December as an example, so our squad is not so big.

"Everybody knows because I told I would like four players and I'm ready to go from four to three because the market is difficult, some clubs think the market is different from others.

"We are not a club that is ready to pay what the clubs want us to pay so I'm ready to go from four to three.

"The transfer fees don't surprise me, really. I kept saying there is big economic power at every club. It allows clubs to say no. To say pay what I want or you don't get it.

"I can imagine City would like to pay £25 million for Kyle but they were told this is the price.

"The option is to pay or not. I am used to club paying big amounts for big players. Now everybody pays big amounts for good players. There is a difference between good players and big players."
