Manchester United should hold Europa League victory parade - Phil Neville

Manchester United should hold a victory parade for their Europa League success in the wake of this week's bomb attack in Manchester, according to the club's former defender Phil Neville.

Sources told ESPN FC this week that United are not expected to hold an open-top bus parade in the event of Europa League glory, which was achieved with a 2-0 win over Ajax on Wednesday.

Chelsea have cancelled Sunday's plans to celebrate their Premier League title win amid heightened security concerns in the aftermath of the Manchester bomb attack.

An explosion at Manchester Arena on Monday killed 22 people and injured 59, and the British government has subsequently raised the national threat level from severe to critical.

"When we won the Champions League we paraded the trophy in the city centre, ending in the Arena and celebrated there. It was unbelievable," Neville, who won six Premier League titles with United, told BBC Radio 5 live.

"After what happened on Monday, United should parade the trophy around Manchester and finish at the Arena.

"I think it would be special. You should fill the streets of Manchester -- Deansgate, St Peter's Square, St Ann's Square -- and get the trophy back.

"Football can do brilliant things so don't go off on holiday, get back to Manchester, get the trophy out and share the success with the city."

Meanwhile, former United midfielder David Beckham, who made 394 appearances for the club, said: "Tonight was more important than sport," adding that it was "a big night for United but an even bigger night for the city and our country".

"At a time when we are grieving for the families that have lost loved ones, we have a sport that has brought a little happiness at a difficult time. We pray for peace."
