Manchester United to play preseason game against Sampdoria in Dublin

Manchester United have announced they will play a seventh preseason game this summer when they face Sampdoria in Dublin on Aug. 2 following trips to the United States and Norway.

Jose Mourinho's team will play five games in the United States against LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

They will be followed by a friendly against Valerenga in Norway on July 30, before the trip to the Republic of Ireland to face Serie A side Sampdoria -- goalkeeper Sergio Romero's former club.

"The team has a good variety of games over the summer, playing in great stadiums and allowing a large number of our global family of fans to see live games across the world," United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said in a statement.

"The preseason programme has been put together to ensure the manager and his squad have a great platform to prepare for next season with games against top-class opposition."

This summer's tour is in stark contrast to Mourinho's first as manager last year.

Last summer, United played just three games before kicking off the season against Leicester in the Community Shield.

Friendlies against Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai and Galatasaray in Gothenburg made up the tour before Everton visited Old Trafford for Wayne Rooney's testimonial.

A planned Manchester derby against Pep Guardiola's City in Beijing was cancelled after heavy rain made the pitch at the Bird's Nest Stadium unplayable.

This summer's packed schedule comes on the back of a hectic season for United. The Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm on Wednesday will be their 64th game of the campaign -- one more than when they won the Treble in 1999.
