Jose Mourinho: Man Utd will be ready to win 'big things' with new signings

Jose Mourinho has told Manchester United's prospective summer signings they will join a team ready to win "big things" next season.

Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to make changes to his squad ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

He has already been linked with a host of new players including Antoine Griezmann, Romelu Lukaku, Willian, Michael Keane and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

United could still finish this season with the EFL Cup, Europa League and a place in the top four of the Premier League.

But Mourinho insists any new signings will join a group better prepared to challenge for the Premier League title and, should United qualify, the Champions League.

"The group, next July 9, when we meet again for next season, is a strong group. So the new players, when they will arrive, will find a group more ready to go for big things," Mourinho told a news conference following the 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Thursday.

"But the reality is that we are fighting to win the Europa League and we are fighting to try to finish fourth, so let's go."

United's stalemate with City extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 24 games.

And Mourinho says the streak, which stretches back to October, is proof that he has added "resilience" to the squad he inherited from Louis van Gaal.

"The group was a nice group, honestly, the group was a nice group," Mourinho said. "Good people, good boys, committed people, so I think Louis van Gaal left here a good group of boys with very good relations between them, and that I got in my hands.

"I think they missed happiness, they missed trust, they missed belief, they missed this extra bit that brings resilience, brings you fight, and [now] they have it."

United are back in action against Swansea at Old Trafford on Sunday before a trip to Spain for their Europa League semifinal first leg against Celta Vigo on Thursday.
