Manchester United will push Chelsea 'until the end' - Quinton Fortune

Manchester United are still capable of winning the Premier League title this season, despite trailing Chelsea by 15 points with 12 games to go, according to former utility player Quinton Fortune.

Man United are sixth on the table, but have built some impressive momentum over the past two months, culminating in Sunday's League Cup success over Southampton.

And ex-South African international Fortune, who played more than 100 games for the club between 1999 and 2006, says that United are certainties for the top four and will fight with Chelsea until the last day of the season for title honours.

"One down, three to go [Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup]," Fortune told the Straits Times. "The league is still to play for. Chelsea are doing well this season, but it's not over until it's over.

"We'll push them right until the end, with the Europa League and FA Cup still to play for."

Fortune and his former teammate Ronny Johnsen were upbeat about the new-look United under Jose Mourinho on a visit to Singapore this week.

"They won the first trophy under Mourinho on Sunday, which is a very good sign," said former Norwegian centre-back Johnsen. "You could see they are constantly improving their performances. They can even win on a bad day, which is another good sign.

"They have a chance to win more trophies this season. From now until the end of this season, it is so tight now in the Premier League to earn those Champions League places.

"But it looks very promising, I have to say. It's a good mix between old and young players."

Fortune added that he expected the Old Trafford club to dominate English and European football in the seasons to come, with the right blend of youth and experience.

"Of course, they can dominate again," Fortune added. "The way they are going now, with the young players ... Anthony Martial and [Marcus] Rashford.

"There's youth and it's mixed with Zlatan [Ibrahimovic]. There's a lot of exciting moments to look forward to.

"Then there's Pogba. He's still only 23. We forget about that. There's a lot of youth in the team and in a few years' time, they will get even better. For the moment, they are playing at this level and it is already amazing.

"I'm excited about this season. They have the potential to go and win everything. They have the mentality of not losing, which is great because we have the attacking players who are always creating chances and scoring."

Man United, who will host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday, sit two points outside the top four. They are one point behind fifth-placed Liverpool, who have played one game more, and lost on Monday night at Leicester City.
