Paul Pogba on Manchester United: 'I have United in my heart, it's my house'

Paul Pogba has said that he is still the "same person" as when he left Manchester United in 2012, describing it as going "on holiday" then coming back to his "house."

The France midfielder left United to join Juventus as a raw teenager, but returned to the English Premier League club in the summer in a world-record transfer deal for £89.3 million. The 23-year-old has scored four goals for United so far this season in all competitions.

Speaking at an exclusive event in London, Pogba said: "I have United in my heart, it's my house. When I left, I always knew that I would come back. For me, it's just normal.

"It's like I went on holiday and just came back. Seriously. Nothing really changed. I'm the same person."

One of the familiar faces at United was Jesse Lingard, who is also 23 and was a teammate of Pogba when the pair were coming up through the youth ranks at the club. Lingard, who was given his United debut in Louis van Gaal's first match in charge in 2014, now shares a dancing celebration with the Frenchman.

Pogba said: "When Jesse saw me, I was really happy to see him. We grew up together. To see him in the first team, I'm very happy and very proud."

Discussing his fondness for interacting with the fans, Pogba added: "For them, it's something different. They can lose one game and not talk for two days. That's why we play for the fans as well as myself and the family.

"You have to give them the same love. I enjoy football and I enjoy the fans. I have done since I was young. That won't change."

He also discussed his family, saying: "My dad used to play and coach as well.

"But I wasn't born with shiny things. I grew up in a flat with my brothers and my cousins.

"My brothers were in the same bed. It wasn't always easy so you want to do something else so your life can change.

"I wasn't really interested in girls. Only football.

"My mum is everything. I was her baby as I'm the youngest one so I was always with her. Why would it change? I did the same thing in Paris and Le Havre. My mum even came with me to Manchester."

When asked about the biggest game he has played in, Pogba mentioned Juventus' Champions League final defeat, losing 3-1, against Barcelona in 2015. The midfielder played the full 90 minutes in that game, as the Italian giants were condemned to a record-breaking sixth European Cup final loss.

He said: "I saw the trophy next to me and we were close to winning and didn't so it makes me more hungry, you know. It gives me more motivation to win it."

He added that his heroes as a youngster included the Brazilian Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho and Kaka.
