Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney suspended for trip to Everton

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney will be missing for the trip to Everton this weekend after picking up his fifth booking of the season.

Rooney, 31, was shown the yellow card in the 54th minute of United's EFL Cup tie against West Ham on Wednesday evening, ruling him out of their next fixture on Sunday through suspension.

The England skipper remains one goal short of Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time United scoring record of 249 goals.

Rooney began his career at Goodison Park before moving to Manchester United in a £25.6 million deal in August 2004 at the age of 18.
