Man United manager Jose Mourinho not concerned by Pep Guardiola rivalry

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that his focus will not be on his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola, as they prepare to start work in charge of their new Premier League clubs.

It is the first time that Mourinho has spoken publicly about his renewed rivalry with Guardiola since they were appointed by their respective sides, with the pair having had a fierce rivalry in Spain.

In May 2011, Guardiola was in charge of Barcelona and showed how much the mind games of Mourinho -- Real Madrid head coach at the time -- had affected him, when his explicit outburst in a news conference drew attention.

Their rivalry goes back before their battles in Spain too, with Mourinho having run across the Camp Nou pitch when his Inter Milan side knocked Guardiola's Barcelona out of the Champions League in April 2010.

Speaking in Portugal, where he was attending a lecture at Lisbon University, Mourinho said: "My experience does not allow me to be innocent. I was with Guardiola two years in a league where me or he would be champion. Here, if I focus on him, or he on me, the champion will be another [manager]."
