Jose Mourinho can bring Man United 'instant success' - Thierry Henry

Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry says the arrival of Jose Mourinho heralds "a new era" at Manchester United.

Mourinho was confirmed as Louis van Gaal's successor on Friday after three days of talks with Old Trafford officials. And Henry believes former Chelsea boss Mourinho can bring "instant success" to United.

United's only trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 is this season's FA Cup, won 48 hours before the club announced Van Gaal's departure.

But Henry believes former Chelsea boss Mourinho, who has won the Premier League three times, can give fans the success they crave.

"I think it's great for the league and great for Manchester United. It's a new era now," he told Sky Sports. "We all know what Jose Mourinho can do and it was clear they were always going to go for him.

"There's no need to talk about how good he can be, we all know he can be amazing. Everyone now at United is dying for success and that's personally what I associate them with.

"He has a certain way of playing and people might not say it's the United way or be concerned about the youngsters. He has to carry on with the young guys that have done well this year -- Marcus Rashford, you can't stop that.

"A lot of the time at Real Madrid his teams outscored Barcelona. It's about winning for United at the moment -- the fans want instant success and he can give them that.

"Because they haven't made the top four it will have made it more difficult to attract big players but with Mourinho, they can probably now attract the players they want."

Henry believes that a move to snap up free-agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who on Thursday said he has a "a great relationship" with Mourinho, is an obvious step.

"It would be a no-brainer to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic," Henry added. "When he goes on the field, he's an animal but out of it he's a class act and so professional. He'd be a big success for Manchester United."
