Ashley Young: Man United's FA Cup win feels like Premier League glory

Manchester United's Ashley Young said that the feeling of being FA Cup winners is "up there with winning the league" and insisted that the club will become stronger in the next campaign.

Young played for United when they won the Premier LEague in 2013, which was their last trophy until a three-year drought was ended by winning the FA Cup final. They defeated Crystal Palace in the showpiece, 2-1 at Wembley on Saturday, meaning that former manager Louis van Gaal's reign ended on a high.

Young told the club's official website: "This is up there with winning the league. You join a club like United to win these kinds of competitions and, when you do, it's a great feeling and hopefully we can relive it again and again.

"When you win a trophy, it gives you belief that you can win more. We'll enjoy this now and reconvene next season and come back tougher and stronger."

If Jose Mourinho completes his expected move to become United's manager then he will be inheriting a group of players repeatedly produced late heroics during their FA Cup run.

There was a late equaliser against West Ham United in the quarterfinal and a last-gasp winning goal against Everton in the semifinals. In the final, Jesse Lingard produced his decisive strike in the closing stages of extra time while United were down to 10 men against Palace's 11.

Young said: "That was down to that character and spirit we've always had. Everyone wants to fight for each other.

"It was tough when we went down to 10 men, but we knew what we had to do and we knew we'd get a chance at some point and Jesse's strike was unbelievable. I don't think any keeper would have saved that."
