Daley Blind says the constant speculation over Louis van Gaal's future made life difficult for the Manchester United players this season and expressed disappointment over his exit. Van Gaal was relieved of his duties on Monday despite Saturday's FA Cup success, having failed to secure a return to the Champions League. However, Blind, who proved to be one of Van Gaal's most successful signings during his two-year reign, said he would have liked his former Netherlands boss to stay on. "I have always enjoyed working with him and I would have liked to do that for a longer while," he said in De Telegraaf. There have been rumours that Jose Mourinho could replace Van Gaal since December and Blind said it had been unfair on the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss. "A manager at a big club in the Premier League will always be under pressure, but he hasn't been treated very respectfully in the last six months," Blind added. "He has defended us under any kind of circumstance. He always kept us in the background. "It isn't always easy when your manager has been supposedly sacked 82 times. Still, we kept believing in each other and in the manager as a group, winning the FA Cup as a result. "We did that for the fans, the manager and the players themselves. In the end it was a successful end of the season." Blind's father, current Netherlands coach Danny, has said Van Gaal had been unaware of his imminent dismissal and did not deserve to lose his job.
