Memphis Depay, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson likely out for FA Cup - reports

Memphis Depay and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson are not expected to be in Manchester United's FA Cup final squad against Crystal Palace at Wembley on Saturday.

Multiple outlets are reporting that neither man was with the United squad that boarded a train from Stockport, just after 3 p.m. UK time, to London.

Depay has endured a difficult season but manager Louis van Gaal has given him chances, naming him in 58 of his matchday squads this season. The Dutch forward was brought on as a late substitute in the 3-1 home win against Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Borthwick-Jackson has been impressive when called upon this season, but United full-backs Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian have both returned to fitness in time for the Cup final, increasing the competition for places. Borthwick-Jackson started against Bournemouth on Tuesday when both men were out injured.

Fellow defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah was also not in the travelling party, according to the reports, which has been expected after Netherlands head coach Danny Blind confirmed that the player was not fit enough to join up with the national squad.

Despite Friday's events, former United striker Dwight Yorke believes the 22-year-old still has a future at the club.

"It's a bit of a shame really, because when he came he came with a big reputation. Coming out of Dutch football he'd done really well and scored a lot of goals, and he got off to the perfect start at Manchester United,'' he said.

"Unfortunately it hasn't worked out that way for him, and he's found it very difficult.

"He's still a young man; he's only 22. Hopefully this will be a learning curve, and he'll come back next year stronger and fitter and raring to go.

"But this will be a massive disappointment for him, not being in the squad for Wembley tomorrow.''

Van Gaal has given little away about his squad and team selection, but did tell his club's official website: "[Telling the players they are not in the squad] is the most difficult thing because every player has worked and given their best to perform.

"They are human beings and I have to compare [them] in this moment and the fans and the media don't always realise that. I have to compare and decide.

"I had to tell five players that they are not involved, four players are more or less injured so that's not as difficult and they know already. But five are out of the squad.''
