MANCHESTER -- Sergio Aguero will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness for Manchester City's clash with Stoke City after recovering from a fractured rib.
The striker has returned to training after suffering the injury when he was a passenger in a taxi that hit a column on the side of the road after a concert in Amsterdam in late September.
Aguero, 29, has returned to training but may not be risked after such a painful injury while captain Vincent Kompany is still out with a calf strain.
"He did his first training session after what happened and he did it quite well. Hopefully as soon as possible he'll be back," Guardiola told a news conference.
"Maybe [he'll be back for Saturday], we're going to see in the last training session we'll see. Of course, he is not 100 percent but he recovered quite well.
"The most important thing is that it's not as dangerous as it could have been. He explained what happened and when you think what might have happened... but we are back to normal and we are happy about that.
"[Kompany is] still injured. He's much better. but hopefully it's the last part. It depends on him. He'll notify how he feels and when he is able [to return]."
Guardiola confirmed that everybody had returned from international duty uninjured and his only major concern is left-back Benjamin Mendy, who is ruled out until around April.
He refused to be drawn on whether he would sign a replacement or make a move for Alex Sanchez, who Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said could be sold in January.
"The [transfer] window is closed now. Unfortunately, it was long open now it's closed," Guardiola added.
"We will see, we are in October. The only problem we have -- and a big, big, problem is Mendy. He's six months out and it's a big problem.
"We'll suffer even though we have Fabian Delph, Danilo and [Oleksandr] Zinchenko. He was and is so important for us and six months is a long time."
City are top of the Premier League on goal difference from neighbours United, who face Liverpool at Anfield at the weekend.
Five of City's next six fixtures are at the Etihad Stadium and Guardiola believes it's important to keep up the momentum from their strong start to the season.
"I'm so happy with what we've done but still we have a gap to improve," he said. "This month will be so important. We have a lot of games at home coming up and playing Champions League against one of the best teams, I've watched Napoli many games and I'm really impressed."
