Man City's Sergio Aguero banned four games following red card

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has been banned for four matches by the Football Association following his red card against Chelsea on Saturday.

Aguero's horrific challenge on David Luiz led to a ugly scenes as players and staff from both clubs clashed with Fernandino, who will serve a three-match ban, also shown the red card for grabbing Cesc Fabregas by the throat.

Premier League leaders Chelsea won the game 3-1 for an eighth successive victory, but both clubs can anticipate FA disciplinary action for a failure to control their players.

Fabregas' role in Fernandinho's dismissal could also be scrutinised after it appeared he struck the City man in the face, prompting the Brazil international's furious reaction.

Aguero's red card was an automatic three-match ban for violent conduct, with another game added as it is was his second of the season -- the other being issued retrospectively after he was adjudged to have elbowed West Ham's Winston Reid in August.

The Argentina international will miss Premier League matches against Leicester City, Watford, Arsenal and Hull City. He would return in time for the trip to face Liverpool at Anfield on Dec. 31. Fernandinho will be back for the fixture against Hull.

Fernandinho, 31, also received his second red card of the season as he was sent off in last month's Champions League draw at Borussia Monchengladbach -- but that has no bearing on the length of a domestic ban.

City defender Nicolas Otamendi, meanwhile, received his fifth booking of the season in the game to trigger an automatic one-match suspension, so Pep Guardiola will be without three players for Saturday's trip to Leicester.

The two red cards against Chelsea took City's number of on-field dismissals to five in the early months of Guardiola's reign.
