Los Angeles FC close in on Penarol striker Diego Rossi - sources

Los Angeles FC is on the verge of signing Penarol striker Diego Rossi Marachlian, sources have confirmed to ESPN FC.

Uruguayan outlet Referi was the first to report the news.

A source cautioned that a contract has not been signed as of yet, but that LAFC had agreed to pay a transfer fee of around $3 million in order to acquire the Uruguayan youth international.

The source indicated that LAFC executive vice president of soccer operations and general manager John Thorrington had recently traveled to Uruguay, and departed confident that a deal would be completed.

Rossi, 19, marks the second player that LAFC has signed ahead of its inaugural campaign in 2018, with Mexico international Carlos Vela being the first. Rossi first broke into Penarol's first team in 2016, and has gone on to score 11 goals in 42 league and cup appearances. At international level Rossi has played for Uruguay's under-17 and under-20 teams, but has yet to make his debut for the senior team.
