David Accam, Shaun Maloney pace Fire to win over FC Dallas

David Accam and Shaun Maloney scored as the Chicago Fire beat FC Dallas 2-0 on Sunday night to end a three-game winless streak.

The loss snapped a six-game unbeaten streak -- and five-game win streak -- for FC Dallas, which was shut out for the first time since June 6 against San Jose.

Jason Johnson found a streaking Accam for a right-footer from just outside the six-yard box to open the scoring in the fourth minute.

Chicago's Matt Watson was shown a red card in the 78th minute, but Kennedy Igboananike drew a foul in the penalty area on Kellyn Acosta, and Maloney's penalty to the bottom-left corner gave the Fire a 2-0 lead about seven minutes later.

Dallas nearly doubled Chicago in time of possession, but had just three shots on target -- two of which came in stoppage time.

Diego Valeri sent a penalty careening off the crossbar in the 75th minute and the Portland Timbers settled for scoreless draw with the San Jose Earthquakes.

The single point for the draw moved the Timbers past Seattle into fifth place in the Western Conference.

Both teams came into the match looking to snap winless streaks. San Jose avoided losing its fifth straight match and the Timbers are winless in their last four, all on the road.

San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham made five saves to earn the shutout, including a foot save on a shot by newly signed Timbers designated player Lucas Melano inside the box, just seconds before Valeri was taken down inside the penalty area.

Adam Larsen Kwarasey needed just three saves in goal for Portland, but the Timbers had to defend 11 corner kicks.
