Lyon's Memphis Depay vows to shine after winning Goal of the Year

Memphis Depay has promised improved performances for Lyon next season after winning Ligue 1's Goal of the Year award.

Depay joined Lyon from Manchester United in January, and has scored five goals and registered seven assists in 15 Ligue 1 appearances for the seven-time French champions.

One of his strikes was a breathtaking 40-metre lob against Toulouse in mid-March that earned the Netherlands international the honour of the French top-flight's best goal this term.

Speaking to media afterwards, Depay, 23, predicted that his talent would fully flourish in 2017-18.

"I'm happy that I can bring this trophy back to Lyon, but I look forward to a better year next season," the former PSV Eindhoven prodigy, who had made just four substitute appearances in the Premier League for United this season, said.

"This is just the start for me. I've only been here six months, five months. I've had a difficult season."

Depay added: "It was a nice goal, and there will be more coming soon."
