Defender Andrew Robertson frustrated by start to his Liverpool career

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson said he had spoken to Jurgen Klopp about his lack of game time and been told he remains part of the manager's first-team plans.

Robertson has made just three appearances since signing from Hull City in the summer, but the 23-year-old said he felt he could force his way back into the starting XI if he took Klopp's advice.

"Of course it's difficult. I don't make any secret of it, I hate not playing," Scotland international Robertson said.

"It's been a very frustrating three months for me, but I spoke to the manager as I felt as if the settling-in period was over and thought I was ready to play.

"I felt I did myself justice in the games I did play, so I had a good chat with him. He gave me a few points to work on, so that's kept me going.

"I know I'm still in his plans and, if I work on the things he's asked me to, hopefully I'll be in the first team or closer to it."

Robertson played in Scotland's friendly defeat to Netherlands last week and said: "I was delighted to get 90 minutes. I was a bit rusty and it maybe caught up with me in the last 20 minutes.

"How do I cope with this? That's a hard one. Maybe I can't answer that right now as I've not cracked it yet.

"I've not been used to it. In the past five years my rise has been good. If I can keep doing what I'm doing then I hope my chance will come."

Since arriving at Liverpool, Robertson and his partner have celebrated the birth of their first child, and he said: "It's like anyone -- if things aren't going well at work and you go home and see your missus and kid, it cheers you up straight away.

"I thank them, they keep me going and that's why I go to training every day with a smile on my face."
