Jurgen Klopp says officials are hindering Liverpool after Watford draw

Jurgen Klopp says poor officiating, not slack defending, cost Liverpool in their draw at Watford at the weekend and that he cannot remember his side benefiting from an offside goal.

Liverpool let a 3-2 lead slip at Vicarage Road in the final seconds when Miguel Britos equalised from what appeared to be an offside position.

Klopp said his side, who conceded from two set pieces on Saturday, do not get tight refereeing decisions going in their favour.

"I saw a lot of good things in the first game. In the end it is not really fair," he said. "I don't imagine many people wrote that we won 3-2 according to the rules but, like Manchester United last year, their goal was offside.

"Can you remember the last goal we scored that was offside and was allowed?

"I'm not sure I can remember if that's happened since I've been here but I know it happened a few times the other way around.

"We had problems in the game but we should have had three points instead of one. Was I happy with the start of the game? No, I wasn't.

"What we did in the second half we wanted to do from the first second but I couldn't see it at the beginning.

"I said to the boys afterwards that we have had five-and-a-half weeks of preseason where it is clear what we want to do and how we want to defend.

"We have the quickest players on the wings. We didn't do it. I wasn't happy with the start but second half was better and I think we deserved to win."

After drawing at Watford, Liverpool move on to the first leg of their Champions League playoff with Hoffenheim, who scored 16 times from set pieces in the Bundesliga last season -- the most in the German top flight.

Klopp says he is not concerned about defending dead-ball situations at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena on Tuesday night.

"Our offensive set pieces were really good against Watford but against us -- one was really bad and the other one didn't count," he added.

"You cannot say to defenders that offside is not enough at a set-piece. But, yes, from all the signs of preseason and the first game I think we are in a good moment. Now we have to show it against Hoffenheim."
