HONG KONG -- Jurgen Klopp says Daniel Sturridge is in the best physical shape since he took over at Liverpool.
Sturridge, 27, endured another injury-plagued campaign last season, making just seven starts in the Premier League.
However, he did help Liverpool secure a top-four finish by scoring the opening goal in a 4-0 win at West Ham United back in May.
"It's the best condition since I'm here," Klopp said of the striker. "OK, I came in October 2015 and Daniel, I think, was probably injured. Last preseason was after a tournament and a short break.
"This year he has had a proper break and is in a good physical shape absolutely."
While Klopp told the assembled media at the luxury Grand Hyatt hotel in Hong Kong that there was nothing new to add on any potential further incomings to the club, he did stress the importance of ensuring that no key players leave Anfield this summer.
"It's a good thing to talk about in the transfer window because the world thinks improving is only about bringing in new players," he added.
"Nobody thinks that the players we already have will make the next step, which is also a nice idea.
"We use the transfer window, of course, because it gives us an opportunity, but the main thing I think about is how we can make the next step with the players we had last season.
"The good news is we didn't lose -- and we will not lose -- a player we want to keep this summer. That's the best news actually and then we'll see who we can bring into the squad. I expect a lot of progress from the players based on their experiences from the last years."
Meanwhile, Sadio Mane will join Liverpool's preseason trip to Germany after being cleared to resume full training next week.
The Senegal international underwent surgery in April having damaged the meniscus in his left knee, and was excluded from the squad which on Sunday travelled to Hong Kong.
Liverpool are scheduled to face Hertha Berlin in a friendly on July 29 before participating in the Audi Cup, which also includes Bayern Munich, and Klopp expects to have the 25-year-old available.
"Sadio is on the way back,'' Klopp told the club's official website. "The plan is he will come with us to Germany. The plan is he trains completely normally with us when we are back in England.
"We have been waiting long enough for him now. He is around [Melwood] all of the time and is in pretty good shape. Unfortunately he was not ready to train, but he looked good, [the injury] looks good and so now he should be fine when we get back.''
