BIRKENHEAD, England -- Jurgen Klopp says he is entirely relaxed about Liverpool's dealings in the transfer market, despite only making two signings thus far.
Liverpool have only brought Mohamed Salah and youngster Dominic Solanke to Anfield so far this summer as Klopp looks to increase options in his squad ahead of a possibly long Champions League campaign if his side makes it through the qualifying round.
While some of Liverpool's rivals continue to add to their ranks, the Reds boss insists he will not make signings in response to other team's dealings in the market.
Speaking at a news conference after Liverpool's 4-0 win over Tranmere Rovers in a preseason friendly on Wednesday night, Klopp said: "If any fans of us think what the other teams are doing and why we don't do anything, then I can't help.
"We cannot buy players only because other teams buy players. We do business as good as we can do it.
"We are completely in it and we are convinced about the way we are doing it. Nervous fans, I don't have to write a message for this.
"We have [until] the 31st of August. We have time and some things need time.
"If we make transfers, it's because we want to do it. If not, then it's because we don't want to do it. That's how it is and we have to wait a little bit."
Klopp was asked on the status of Liverpool's interest in Virgil van Dijk after the Merseyside club released a statement in June apologising to Southampton amid tapping-up allegations.
"Am I allowed to talk about this? No I'm not," Klopp said. "Pretty much everything what I could say would be a mistake, I think.
"You wrote everything about it a few weeks ago, I think. I was in Iceland when somebody told me this. That's all I have to say about it."
In terms of outgoings, Klopp said Mamadou Sakho needed to be "100 percent fit" before he decided whether the out-of-favour defender would feature in Liverpool's preseason.
Sakho, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Crystal Palace, is widely expected to leave the club this summer following numerous disciplinary issues.
Meanwhile, Liverpool began their 2017-18 on a positive note, comprehensively beating National League Tranmere, with the goals coming from James Milner, Marko Grujic, Pedro Chirivella and Ben Woodburn.
There was a debut for new signing Solanke, who played the entirety of the second half at Prenton Park after his move from Chelsea was completed earlier in the week, although Salah was not allowed to play as work permit issues need to be sorted out still.
"Obviously, [Solanke's] a young lad and that means it's a long-term project," Klopp said of the 19-year-old. "I have all the time in the world, if you want.
"I saw a few wonderful signs tonight. He's an offensive player, a really skilled boy and has to improve, of course. But a lot of things are really good -- first touch, movements and a lot of things. It's about him, his situation, but I will not avoid his development. In the moment when he is strong enough, he's there.
"Yes, he will train with us as often it makes sense and is possible."
Forward Sadio Mane will miss Liverpool's preseason trip to Hong Kong for the Premier League Trophy as he continues his recovery from a knee operation.
The Senegal international scored 13 Premier League goals last season despite spending most of January at the African Nations Cup before his campaign was prematurely ended on April 1.
He will most likely resume full training in the next week but is not ready for competitive matches yet and will remain at Melwood when the squad fly out to Asia on Sunday.
"He is really, really good. He is close; he is closing on coming back to team training,'' said Klopp.
"In this moment we think it will be when we are in Asia, so then it makes no sense to take him to Asia because he needs to then do the first steps in kind of team training.''
