Jurgen Klopp hoping Dejan Lovren can resume team training at end of week

Jurgen Klopp says he is hopeful that Dejan Lovren will be able to return to full training when Liverpool return from their midseason training camp.

Lovren. 27, has missed the Reds' last two matches with a knee injury and did not travel to La Manga, Spain, for warm-weather training.

The Croatia international has remained on Merseyside and will continue treatment at Melwood.

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Klopp also hopes young midfielder Marko Grujic will soon be able to rejoin the squad as he recovers from a tendon issue.

"That was the decision of the medical department," Klopp told the club's official website when asked why Lovren and Grujic did not board the team plane on Wednesday.

"Of course we have here exactly the same possibilities in the medical department and we have fantastic people at home and they can take care of the players, which makes more sense.

"Hopefully, especially Dejan, [they] can come back to training after when we come back on Sunday, that would be great.

"Same for Marko Grujic, who is close but not close enough to make the sessions with us. It's not nice for a player when you're close but you see this, so do your stuff and train [with the group] in the moment you can do it again. So that's all, there are no other reasons."

Twenty-seven players have made the four-day trip to the south-east of Spain, including academy youngsters Yan Dhanda and Conor Masterson.

Striker Daniel Sturridge sat out both sessions of the squad's first full day at La Manga. The England international is suffering from a virus and medical staff decided it was best he remained at the team hotel.
