Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp denies disrespecting FA Cup

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed suggestions that Liverpool are disrespecting the FA Cup by fielding younger sides in their ties.

The Reds have fielded inexperienced teams in all of their FA Cup matches during Klopp's tenure, and put out their youngest-ever starting XI for the goalless third-round home draw with League Two Plymouth Argyle earlier this month.

In last season's meetings with Exeter City and West Ham United, Klopp relied on fringe players and youngsters in the midst of an injury crisis.

The manager reached three DFB Pokal finals and a Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund, while Liverpool were runners-up in both the League Cup and the Europa League during his first season at Anfield.

And as he prepared for Wednesday's replay at Plymouth, he said: "Usually I don't speak about things I've done in the past, but have a look at my cup record in the last few years.

"We were in 500 finals or something like this. There was not one situation where you think: 'Oh which team did he pick, he doesn't want to be in the cup.'

"If anybody thinks out there that I don't respect the cup you cannot imagine how little I'm interested in this opinion, even if it is a supporter or not.

"I am responsible for this team and we have to play a lot of tournaments. If I think a player is ready for the next game he plays, if I think he is not ready he will not play.

"If anybody thinks I don't respect the cup, I cannot change that. I love this cup, I love playing in cup competitions. Everything is fine."

Meanwhile, Liverpool will not risk playing Joel Matip at Plymouth while uncertainty over his eligibility remains, a source has told ESPN FC.
