Gary Neville trades barbs with Liverpool keeper Loris Karius

Gary Neville and Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius traded barbs on Friday following criticism from the former Manchester United defender on television.

In his role as a pundit for Sky Sports, Neville criticised Karius' role in Liverpool's defeat to Bournemouth last Sunday. The German keeper spilled a ball that was pounced on by Nathan Ake for the winning goal.

Neville commented on the performance alongside former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher. But Karius, in an interview with the Daily Mail published on Thursday, was more bothered by the words from Neville, who was fired as Valencia manger after four months.

"Carragher was here at Liverpool for a long time so maybe after the game he was a bit frustrated," Karius said. "He is probably still a supporter. I have to accept it. What critics say right after the game, I don't know what I think. If you asked them again would they say it now?

"And I don't care what Gary Neville said. He was a top player, then he was a manager for a short bit and now he is back to being an expert again.

"But he is always very critical. I think he does it to everyone. I just hope that when I do well he will comment on that. We will see in the future."

Later on Friday, Neville took exception for being singled out, posting on Instagram an excerpt of similar criticism from Carragher, along with a brief comment.

"My sincere apologies Karius. You're right. A failed manager hasn't a clue," he wrote. Then refferring to Carragher: "I won't copy your great fan, pundit and club legend again."
