Liverpool U23s manager Michael Beale leaving post - source

Liverpool Under-23s manager Michael Beale has informed the club he intends to take up a position elsewhere, sources told ESPN FC.

Sources have told ESPN FC that it is expected Beale will take up a role as assistant manager at Brazilian side Sao Paulo, serving as No. 2 to former Brazil goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni, although a leaving date has yet to be decided.

Another sources has also told ESPN FC that a replacement for Beale's position has not been decided, and that speculation linking former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to the soon-to-be vacant role is "premature."

Gerrard retired from professional football last month and has continued to be linked with a return to Liverpool, with manager Jurgen Klopp insisting that "the door is always open" at his boyhood club.

The source added that Liverpool are confident Beale's departure will not be detrimental to the academy's work in the short-term future due to the "extensive coaching infrastructure" within the confines of the Kirkby academy.

Beale became manager of the Liverpool U21s -- who are now the U23s as part of a Premier League restructure of youth football this summer -- in August 2014, and has overseen many young players make the leap to the first team.

He joined Liverpool's academy in September 2012 as a youth development coach before becoming manager of the U16s, having previously spent 10 years at Chelsea.
