Plane flies 'Rodgers out, Rafa in' banner over Liverpool's Anfield

A plane carrying a banner calling for Brendan Rodgers to be dismissed as Liverpool manager flew across Anfield prior to the team's meeting with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

The banner displayed the words "Rodgers out, Rafa in," calling for former Reds boss Rafael Benitez to be reappointed as manager of the Merseyside club.

Rodgers, who took charge of Liverpool in 2012, oversaw a title challenge last season but has endured a difficult campaign this time around, with the club appearing to have little prospect of finishing in the top four after winning just one of their five games prior to the meeting with QPR.

The former Swansea boss had been under pressure in December after a run of just two wins in nine Premier League games left them 10th in the table.

While a good run after Christmas put them back in Champions League contention, their recent dip in form has renewed questions over his tenure.

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp, who has announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season, has been linked with the job.

Sources told ESPN FC earlier this week that former Liverpool coach Benitez is set to leave Napoli at the end of the season, even if he is offered a new contract by the Italian club.

Manchester United fans flew a banner protesting against David Moyes' reign over Old Trafford during their meeting with Aston Villa in March 2014, with the manager sacked less than a month later.
