Daniel Sturridge's return to Liverpool starting lineup excites Ian Rush

Daniel Sturridge's return to fitness is a "massive boost" for Liverpool, according to Reds legend Ian Rush.

Sturridge is expected to start against Queens Park Rangers on Sunday, having returned to full training last week after six weeks out with a thigh injury.

And with Liverpool having struggled for goals in the England international's absence, Rush cannot wait to see him feature once more in Brendan Rodgers' starting XI.

"It's a massive boost," he told the Daily Mirror. "We have missed Daniel, he's a quality player. With the international week, there's even more time for him to come back from his injury.

"You look at the game against Tottenham, when Sturridge, [Mario] Balotelli and [Raheem] Sterling played. There were goals in the three of them and they were absolutely fantastic.

"It will be a big boost to have Daniel back and hopefully he can get the side going again. We had a good win in our last game, so what we're looking for now is to maintain that."

The 3-0 win at Tottenham in August was Sturridge's last appearance for Liverpool before he sustained his injury while on international duty with England.

Despite the striker's spell on the sidelines, Rush believes he will have no problem slotting back into the side.

"It can be difficult, but he has had a good preseason," he said. "I think it will be pretty normal for him; he'll get straight into it. He's a naturally fit player so I think he'll walk straight in. I don't think it will be a problem."
