When can Liverpool win the Premier League?

Liverpool are marching toward a first league title in 30 years and are an incredible 23 points clear. But when will they be confirmed as Premier League champions? And who might have to give them a guard of honour?

Here, we take a look through the possibilities.

How many wins guarantees Liverpool the title?

They are 23 points clear with 24 available to Man City, so it means Liverpool need 2 points from 7 games, and the quickest way to do that is with one victory. However, as their next game is against Man City, they only to draw that match to seal the title.

Liverpool play Manchester City (a), Aston Villa (h) and Brighton (a) in their next three games.

If Man City win at Chelsea, then the Reds will be champions on Thursday, July 2 if they avoid defeat at Man City.

The guard of honour would then come at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, July 5.

If Man City beat both Chelsea and Liverpool, then the Reds can seal the title with a win at home to Villa. Then the guard of honour would come at Brighton on July 8.

When is the earliest Liverpool can be champions?

The earliest the title could mathematically be confirmed is Thursday, June 26.

For this to happen, Man City must fail to win at Chelsea on Thursday.

Liverpool would then get a guard of honour from Man City on July 2.

Who holds the record for the earliest title win?

Both Manchester United (2000-01) and Man City (2017-18) have won the title with five games to spare. If Liverpool claim the trophy before they face City, they will do it with seven matches in hand.
