Wes Morgan urges Riyad Mahrez to stay and help Leicester defend title

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan has urged Riyad Mahrez to "follow in my footsteps" and commit his future to the Premier League champions.

The 32-year-old defender signed a new contract earlier this week, but other Foxes stars like Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and the now-departed N'Golo Kante have been the subjects of intense transfer speculation over the summer.

Morgan, however, has called on his teammate to put an end to the rumours and help the Foxes focus on the season ahead.

"I know there's a lot of talking going off but hopefully everybody can follow in my footsteps," Morgan told the Guardian.

"We want to maintain our key players and build on that with the new players because we have got a lot to play for this season.

"We have some fantastic players and some of the bigger teams in Europe are going to want them.

"We need to focus on our job, let the people talk the talk and do what we can do on the pitch."

Leicester City will begin their 2016-17 campaign on Aug. 7 when they meet FA Cup winners Manchester United in the Community Shield.
