Barcelona coach Luis Enrique could rest Luis Suarez over suspension fear

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has suggested he may rest Luis Suarez for Wednesday's Copa del Rey semifinal second leg at Villarreal, while waving away any concerns the striker might be upset with that decision.

Barca take a 3-1 advantage into the return game at El Madrigal, with Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique having scored in the first leg at Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana have no new injury concerns ahead of Wednesday's game but there is a decision to make over regular starters Suarez and Javier Mascherano, who are both a booking away from potentially missing the final against Espanyol or Athletic Bilbao through suspension.

The Barca boss told his pregame news conference that he would keep the bookings in mind when picking his team.

"We know that Mascherano and Suarez are in that situation, and are considering it," Luis Enrique said. "We will resolve it with the [starting] XI tomorrow. To play in the final we first have to get past Villarreal. I have it in mind. We will see tomorrow."

Asked about Suarez's evident annoyance at being substituted in Saturday's 3-1 La Liga win at Granada, which follows similar displays by Neymar and Messi in the past, the former Barca midfielder said being involved in the big games had been the most important thing for him.

"I just focus on what the players do on the pitch," he said. "I am not interested in the stuff outside. When I was a player I did not want to play all the time -- [in] kick-abouts or the substitutes' games I did not want to play, for example."

Villarreal showed their quality when narrowly losing 3-2 at Barcelona in La Liga on Feb. 1 and most recently when drawing 1-1 at Real Madrid on Sunday evening, but sat back in the semifinal first leg at the Camp Nou.

"We do not know yet how they will play, but the result from first leg means at some stage they will have to push their lines forward, different from other games we had against them," Luis Enrique said. "Villarreal in their other Liga games are not the same team who played against us. In other games they have more possession of the ball, use it well and arrive with men in wide positions."

The usually attack-minded Barca will not change track and sit back to try and defend their lead in the tie, with the coach saying: "Barca always go out to win every game. The objective in this second leg is to win the game. If we win the game, there is no chance of a surprise."

With Barca currently just two points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid and with a 2-1 advantage ahead of their Champions League round-of-16 second leg at home to Manchester City, Luis Enrique believes his team are reaching the business end of the season in good shape.

"We are arriving in optimal condition, for playing time, for intensity for the different positions we have reinforced," he added. "I do not know if we will end up with the chance to win trophies, but this is we are where we set out to be at the start of the season."
