Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic praises Luis Enrique, backs Lionel Messi penalties

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic says that everyone at the club is behind coach Luis Enrique, while he has no intention of asking to take over penalty-taking duties from Lionel Messi.

The relationship between Luis Enrique and Messi has been the subject of speculation since a well-publicised training ground dispute in January.

More recently Messi has put the team's upturn in form down to a more focused dressing-room, while his coach has maintained that there was no big change in attitude following the defeat at Real Sociedad on Jan. 4.

Croatia international Rakitic told Sportske Novosti, in quotes picked up in Marca, that he and his teammates were all united behind their boss.

"Our success comes from everyone together, it is all for one and one for all," he said. "[Luis Enrique] is the boss, and he knows what is best. We all believe in him."

Another burning issue among Blaugrana fans and pundits recently has been Messi's penalty record, with the miss against Manchester City in their Champions League last 16 first leg meaning the Argentine has only scored three of his last seven spot-kicks in a Barca jersey.

Rakitic, who himself had an uneven record as Sevilla's penalty taker last season, said he would take over if asked but did not think a change was necessary.

"I am ready to take on that responsibility," Rakitic said. "But Messi has scored a lot of goals and we believe he will do so again."
