The African Nations Cup (ANC) finals in 2023 will not be switched to the summer to accommodate the Qatar World Cup, Guinea sports minister Domani Dore has said.
As the World Cup is set to be played in November/December, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke insisted last week that the 2023 edition of the ANC would be pushed back six months from its usual January date to June.
Valcke claimed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had agreed to move the tournament, but Dore told Guinea television: "We cannot accommodate the Nations Cup in June, it is the rainy season.
"CAF needs to take care to seek the advice of Guinea that we as a state decide which dates the tournament will be played. We understand the problem around the World Cup and a clash with the Nations Cup.
"But CAF needs to take care to ask our opinion. In June, we cannot accommodate a Nations Cup tournament. It's not possible."
