Luis Enrique pleased as Barcelona refocus for La Liga victory

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique praised his side's attitude and effectiveness in difficult conditions when speaking after Saturday afternoon's 3-1 La Liga win at Granada.

Barca were pressed at times by the relegation-threatened Andalusians, but eventually emerged with a clear victory thank to goals from man of the match Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, with the home side's consolation coming from a Javi Marquez penalty.

The result helps Barca bounce back from last weekend's shock 1-0 loss at home to Malaga, and sees them for one day at least cut Real Madrid's lead in the table to one point -- ahead of Los Blancos home game with Villarreal on Sunday evening.

The Barcelona boss told his post-match news conference at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes that he was especially happy his team had been fully focused again so close to Tuesday's Champions League last-16 first-leg win at Manchester City.

"I am very happy with the game considering the special conditions around the game," Luis Enrique said. "You must congratulate the players from both teams as it was tough to pass the ball given the surface.

"It was [also] difficult after the Champions League game, so we must be happy.

"We lost 1-0 last week and to keep up the chase on the leaders was our objective for today. I am happy with the work done by my team."

Suarez, who followed his brace at the City of Manchester stadium last week by scoring again here, and also playing a key role in his side's other two goals.

Luis Enrique said he was no happier now with the ex-Liverpool man as he had been before, although there was more attention now he was getting regularly on the scoresheet.

"Maybe [Suarez] is standing out more as he is scoring goals," he said. "But since he started playing with us he has been doing very well. He brings a lot of things to the team, not just the goals. He does very special work for us."

Luis Enrique said his side had set out to play a bit more directly and bypass midfield due to the poor pitch surface at Los Carmenes.

"In each game the rival uses their own weapons against our attack," he said. "We expected difficulties to be able to link-up, so we wanted to be more effective, a bit more direct. The team interpreted that well, and got ahead in the game, and did not really suffer. "

A question about an interview published Saturday morning in the Catalan press with the club's sporting director Charly Rexach, in which it was claimed Messi "ate too many pizzas last season" and Luis Enrique "imposed too many normas [rules] on the players" was batted away with humour.

"The only norma I know is [Catalan celebrity] Norma Duval," Luis Enrique deadpanned, before returning to his analysis of the game just played.
