Harry Kane welcomes Alan Shearer, Teddy Sheringham comparisons

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has told Sport his style of play is a mixture of both Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham.

Kane has become a first-team regular for Spurs this season, scoring 24 goals in 37 games in all competitions, and he is now widely expected to receive a first call-up to the England squad next month.

His remarkable run of form has also led to comparisons with former England stars Shearer and Sheringham, and Kane said: "I can see a bit of both in me, which isn't bad, to be honest.

"To be compared to someone like Alan Shearer is very special. He's the all-time Premier League top goal scorer. If I score anywhere near as many as he did, it wouldn't be a bad career.

"I feel sometimes I play in both of those roles for Spurs, and I see little bits that they had in my game. Shearer was a great finisher, and I like to think I'm a good finisher.

"Sheringham brought others into play, so you can definitely say I have some similar attributes. Hopefully I can do well and continue to score goals, and one day people will say that this player is like Harry Kane."

Kane, who is likely to start against Chelsea in this weekend's Capital One Cup final at Wembley, credited former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood with giving him a chance to shine.

Sherwood, now in charge of Aston Villa, recently said he had refused to loan Kane out last January, with the youngster already having been sent out to Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester.

The 21-year-old added: "Tim Sherwood first of all played me [regularly] in the Premier League. I knew Tim from the development squad, and we had a great relationship.

"He threw me in when maybe other managers wouldn't have. Maybe that's what a few more young strikers coming through need."
