Celtic fined 10,000 euros by UEFA for Europa League crowd trouble

Celtic have been hit by UEFA with a 10,000-euro fine following crowd disturbances during their 4-3 Europa League defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in December.

Flares were set off by Celtic fans, who also clashed with police in the away end of the Stadion Maksimir in the group-stage clash on Dec. 11.

The Scottish champions have now been reprimanded, with UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body announcing news of the fine on the governing body's official website on Wednesday.

Celtic released a statement of their own later in the day condemning the behaviour of a small minority of their supporters.

"Clearly everyone is extremely disappointed that the behaviour of only a handful of people and in particular the use of flares, have led to a further fine from UEFA," the statement read.

"We have repeatedly called for the use of flares to stop. We cannot and will not allow the safety of our supporters or the reputation of our great club to be compromised by the actions of a tiny minority.

"It is time those responsible understand the damage this does to the club they claim to support."

It is the fifth time in three years that Celtic have been charged due to the behaviour of their supporters during European matches.

Celtic visit Inter Milan on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie, with the first game having finished 3-3 at Celtic Park.
