Samir Nasri on Luis Suarez: 'He's good, he just doesn't score as much'

Samir Nasri has sprung to Luis Suarez's defence by saying that the 75 million-pound man cannot be expected to score 70 goals a season for Barcelona.

Suarez was the top scorer in the Premier League last season but has only struck four times in La Liga since his summer move to the Nou Camp.

But Nasri, who will face the Uruguayan on Tuesday when Manchester City host Barcelona in the Champions League, believes Liverpool built a team around Suarez.

And he feels the former Ajax forward is sacrificing himself at Barcelona, where four-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi is the focal point of the team.

Nasri said in a news conference: "I think it was different at Liverpool, he was the main striker. At Barcelona he arrived and Messi is scoring 50 goals a year so you're not going to arrive and score 70 goals.

"He creates a lot of assists for the team, they have a proper No. 9 now, he creates a lot of space for Neymar and Messi, so for me he has had a big impact. I watch the games. I think he's good, he just doesn't score as much as last year."

Suarez scored 31 goals in 33 league games for Liverpool last season, helping him win the Footballer of the Year award.

But Nasri added: "At Liverpool he was good because the team was built around him. But you can't build a team around Suarez when have Messi at his prime, it's just different, but when you arrive at a big club you have to deal with those things and not come in and try to be the No.1."
